Sensitivity after installation
For the patient, an adaptation period of 3 to 4 days is necessary after the installation. Indeed, the activation of the appliances leads to sensitivity (and not pain) to chewing; hence the need for a flexible diet during this period. Some discomfort may occur at the beginning due to the friction of the arches on the mucous membranes. Take an analgesic and modify your diet.
The pains
Any new braces can cause sensitivities for 3-4 days. Patience and painkillers will be required to get through this difficult period. Each adjustment appointment can sometimes result in 1-2 days of pain. It is advisable to give preference to cold food at the next meal and to avoid hot food.
Injuries and irritations
Rubbing the braces against the cheeks and lips can cause irritation. We recommend that you use the orthodontic wax to be placed on the appliance. It will protect the cheek from irritation while the mucous membrane adjusts.
You can use a healing gel if you have mouth ulcers. If the gums appear red and swollen, do not hesitate to clean them well with the toothbrush. A mouthwash can be used in addition.
Wire that hurts
If the wire protrudes to the bottom and stings the cheeks, you must first apply orthodontic wax. If this is not enough, do not hesitate to call the office, you will be received as soon as possible.
If you are unable to contact us or cannot come to the office, you can cut off the protruding piece with a nail clipper. Sometimes it can be a ligature, so push it down with an eraser.
Brackets unstuck
There is no urgency. Call the office to reschedule your appointment. We remind you that hard and sticky foods are not allowed during orthodontic treatment.
Invisalign® Gutters
You have lost an aligner : contact us, the practitioner will tell you if you can anticipate the wearing of the next one or if you need to have a new one made. In this case, this may incur additional costs.
If your aligner is bothering you, contact the office.
Spring
If the end of the spring hurts, rotate it on itself around the bow to replace it : if you can't do this, contact the office.
Elastic bands
If you don't have any more elastic bands, or if you have lost your bag, come and get some quickly at the office or contact us by mail or by phone, we will send you some by post. Interrupted wearing of elastics compromises the results of your treatment and lengthens its duration.
Glued restraint wire
If there is a problem with a glued restraint wire, contact the office.
A quotation can be given to you if you are no longer in restraint.
